Preventative dentistry is the practice of ensuring happy and healthy smiles. We do this by taking actions that help prevent cavities, gum disease, oral diseases/cancers, abnormal/excessive tooth wear and much more. Below is a comprehensive look at the solutions we offer for families and individuals who would like to preserve and maintain the integrity of their smiles.

Comprehensive Exams

We offer comprehensive exams in order to detect and assess the entirety of your dental health. We inspect the integrity of your teeth, gums, soft tissues, your bite and glands. We look for issues such as TMD, and even provide oral cancer screening. The goal of our comprehensive exam is to diagnose and prevent the full spectrum of oral diseases before minor issues become critical. Finally, we give you the information you need for home care, so you can keep your smile healthy and beautiful throughout life.

Oral Cancer Screening

We offer oral cancer screenings so we can help you eliminate causative factors that could lead to cancer of the mouth. Regular checkups and screenings can help diagnose signs of precancerous stages, helping us to plan treatments that can prevent progression to cancer and restore your oral health.

Teeth Cleaning

Professional teeth cleaning solutions are combined with at home care in order to keep your teeth and gums as healthy as possible. Efficient brushing and flossing can drastically reduce the buildup of calculus, however, scaling and root planning done by our hygienists will ensure total removal by addressing areas of the mouth traditional brushing and flossing cannot reach. In addition to your cleaning, we will perform a gum disease evaluation so that appropriate modifications can be made to your personal oral care routine, if necessary. We give you the knowledge you need to maintain better oral health.

Over time, staining can result from the overabundance of certain foods or drinks. Even certain medications and smoking can stain teeth. As opposed to chemical or laser whitening methods, tooth polishing is considered a conservative method for stain removal.

Fluoride Treatment

Over time, your protective tooth enamel can become demineralized. Without re-mineralization your teeth become vulnerable to attack from acidic exposure, sugars, and can lead to cavities. Fluoride treatments can help prevent cavities through the re-mineralization of your tooth enamel. In these cases, and depending on your specific needs, you will be given fluoride supplements or topical fluoride to keep your enamel strong and your smile bright.

Diet Counselling

As many of you may already know, one of the biggest factors that lead to dental cavities is your diet. And while the diet may be understood to play a part in oral health, many do not realize that certain foods can cause the saliva to become acidic leading to cavities. Just as many parents may not know that milk or formula resting in a child’s mouth can lead to early childhood cavities. We will discuss proper dietary guidelines, which will help us address specific elements of possible unhealthy consumption. By reducing, or in some cases eliminating, certain foods or drinks – the risk of cavities can be drastically reduced.

Halitosis is described as an oral condition which results in an unpleasant odor emanating from exhaled breath. It is most commonly a chronic disorder, which can lead to public embarrassment. What many people may not understand is that halitosis is sometimes the result of gum infections known as gum disease. Gum disease which causes bad breath, can also lead to harmful bleeding, an increased risk of heart disease, and even a myriad of oral diseases. We will assess the source of your halitosis, helping you to reduce or eliminate it altogether.

Night Guard

Excessive or repetitive grinding of the teeth, also known as bruxism, can lead to multiple oral issues. Most notably of which, is damage to your tooth enamel. Grinding can cause enamel to wear down, and can even cause chipping of the teeth. Another severe issue that can result from chronic teeth grinding, is TMD (Temporomandibular Joint Disorders). This can result in chronic pain, headaches, and clicking in the jaw. Wearing a night guard can manage and even prevent TMD through the prevention of teeth grinding.

Mouth Guard

For those that are regularly active in sports, competitive or otherwise, run the risk of damaging their teeth. Especially high impact exercises run an increased risk of injury to the mouth. This is why we recommend wearing a mouth guard in any situation that may lead to damage of the teeth.

TMD Management

TMD (Temporomandibular Joint Disorders) can result in chronic pain, headaches, and clicking in the jaw. We can help. Depending on your TMJ health physiotherapy, mandibular massage, and a night guard or bite splints may be useful. In some cases, medication may be necessary to ease pain and subside symptoms.

Digital X-Rays

Our state-of-the-art digital x-ray technology provides only the highest quality imaging, while reducing radiation to the lowest levels possible. These images provide amazing detail, highlighting problems in areas that have been difficult to diagnosis in the past. Each image produced leads to precise and detailed diagnostic information.

Intra Oral Imaging

Intra oral imaging is a fantastic tool to build comprehensive oral health knowledge. It is meant to help you understand oral health better, by offering you the opportunity to view lesions, fractures, malocclusions and more. The goal is to help you to plan and understand treatment and prevention options.

Anti-Snoring Appliance

Sleep disturbances such as snoring or obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS) can be a contributor to several other health issues. Sleep apnea can lead to high blood pressure, stroke, heart attack, and clinical depression. For proper diagnosis, sleep studies are advised. However, an anti-snoring appliance repositions the jaw and opens the airways for unobstructed breathing while reducing snoring.
